Great Commission Ministries - Orphan Homes

This was started at Bhongir of Nalgonda district of AP with a vision of helping the orphans who are in millions in India. We want to help at least a few children out of them. We have 71 children in the home and need to have support. This home is managed on faith. We are planning to have 100 children in the home and to help them in providing food, shelter and education.

ABOUT Great Commission Ministries:

It is in the heart of God to raise orphans and destitute children and we the founder members of GCM are privileged to be involved in this humble task.

We know that it is a task we could never accomplish without the helping hand of friends like you. We indeed pray that you will be encouraged to partner with us to give these children the future they deserve.

Great Commission Ministries is a non-Governmental, Independent, Charity Christian Organization registered in India since 1994.

The organization is non-denominational and has no formal relationship with any one Church but seeks to interact with all churches as well as bodies and individuals who share the same vision.

We help children regardless of race, religion or sex especially in the areas of providing education, medical care and subsistence to the needy children.

Great Commission Ministries provides spiritual guidance and counselling through holiday camps and seminars organized to teach them the word of God, life skill and values based on Biblical principles. At present Great Commission Ministries is running a sponsorship program and has plans of building a School on the 7-acre piece of land Great Commission Ministries already owns.

The School will primarily cater for the orphans and needy children and will also benefit the local community and elsewhere. The land is also to be used for commercial projects such as farming, in both crop and animal husbandry.

Problem Analysis

To day, orphans remain a burden of extended families although most of these are living from hand to mouth and many of them are victims of AIDS themselves. In a situation like that, these families who can hardly take care of their own children naturally find it almost impossible to take in an extra child.

As more family members succumb to Aids, the problem becomes even more complex. In fact, this scenario has been played out over and over again, so that to day we have another unique orphan problem. Households headed and managed by children themselves because all grownup relatives have perished.

Project Objectives

The mission of Great Commission Ministries is to bring up orphaned and needy children by finding ways and means of meeting their spiritual, physical and social needs and reaching out to all the children with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The end result is to raise reliable responsible, resourceful and productive citizens through providing and facilitating the education, instruction, training and equipping with skills to the children in a Christian set up.

The objective will be achieved by using various means and ways of reaching out to these children.

Teaching, counselling and upbringing of children to make them responsible and productive citizens of India

Providing and facilitating the education and training of these children in order to equip them with life skills

Establishing foster homes for those children who are homeless, currently we have been forced to rent out home for these children during holiday time as they have nowhere else to go

To provide / facilitate health care for the orphans

By establishing projects and activities that generate income for the BENEFITS FROM THE SPONSORSHIP FOR THE CHILD

Sponsorship for School fees and other educational requirements

Background

The number of orphans in India stands at approx. 47 percent out of a total of about 55 millions children of ages 0-12 years, and an over all population of 150 millions. This buy any standards are a formidable number for even healthy economies to handle. In the case of Uganda, the economy has been devastated by Tsunami, famine and political instability, both at national and household level.

Quick facts of India

Forty seven per cent of children under three years of age are malnourished, the proportion of low birth weight babies remains high

There continues to be high incidence of child labour, child sales and out-of-school children, girls remaining particularly disadvantaged

Only 3% of the population is Christian

Between 1997 and 2000, routine immunization coverage fell from 60 to 40 percent

India’s maternal mortality ratio is high, around 540 deaths per 1,00,000 live births

The orphan problem is still on going owing to the prevalence of aids and pockets of instability in some areas of the country and it poses a real danger to the development of this country

Children, who miss opportunities for improving themselves today, will be a big burden to society and of no use to themselves in future. The problem calls for every compassionate heart to give a helping hand. In 1994, a group of Christian leaders got together to find ways and means to help alleviate the suffering of orphans and to offer support to families which had taken on these children. That is when Great Commission Ministries  (GCM) was born, a Christian non-Governmental organization.

To date we have 71 children in our orphanage of all ages and religious backgrounds and could not take more for the lack of accommodation.

Our hearts' desire is that by the year 2006, Great Commission Ministries would have had solicited sponsorship for 200 orphans.
